Slarty's World

Last night, after a midnight feeding of the babe, I was unable to sleep. I watched a few taped episodes of Doctor Who. Between that, a big bowl of chili, and a pair of heavy White Russians(Lolita and Margarita), I though I would conquer my sleeplessness. It worked, but not until 6 am.

In the mean time, I had the idea of inviting people from distant places to talk and communicate with me. Rather than question wether or not such individuals exist, I am going to operate from the assumption that they do and that there is a global cocktail party culture that is just ripe for the crashing. There are humans out there that have a connection with alien societies and they simply keep it a secret because they don’t want to put up with the shit they would have to deal with if it became public. These humans are livin’ la vida loca and I want in.

If anyone is either a human that has such a connection or if you are an alien from a different world and you want a drinking buddy, feel free to contact me. I will be cool about it. I might post about it, for posterity’s sake, but there are no worries about that, everyone thinks I am full of shit, so they will assume it is creative writing.

In addition to that, I pride myself on being a live and let live sort of individual. So if you are into something really out of this world(maybe you are one of the folks that keeps reading my sex with cows post), I can handle it. I am a little bored with our world, so I am open to a little excitement. Brilliant!

For those of us that are American Psycho fans:

Last night the national debt counter on the top right of the Slarty’s World side bar surpassed $10 Trillion. Way to go Government!

I feel a little bit obsessed with this topic as of late, but I find it fascinating that “Comrades of the Left” can be so amazingly harsh and tasteless about their hatred of Palin. In fact, I think that anyone that expresses such hate and vitrol about any candidate probably should have their opinions discounted. I listen to both left wing and right wing “politic” talk radio and it happens on both sides. People hated Reagan, Bush, Clinton, etc… Check out this article in the Chicago Tribune:

The have a picture accompanying the article, and the caption reads:

1. A naked portrait of Palin? Come on now! You, sir, are no gentleman!
2. You have your daughter pose? (Or tell the reporter this info.)

Strange days these are.

There is a new ad airing in a few battleground states that makes it seem like Sarah Palin is personally slaughtering wolves in Alaska. Apparently, there is a policy in Alaska to protect their game/meat animals from over harvesting by predators. In the case of wolves and bears, a few select people are allowed to harvest part of the population via the air. Personally, I think this attack is hooey. It sounds like there is a very heated debate in Alaska about how the wolf population should be managed. In addition, a large portion of the state agrees with the current practice and voted for Palin because she campaigned on it. So it might seem cruel to someone sitting on a veranda in Michigan, but as a society we kill a ton more other animals than a few hundred wolves in Alaska. Maybe we should only vote for candidates that are vegans. Moreover, this is in Alaska. If Sarah Palin was traveling around the country saying that if she is elected she is going to authorize this practice nationwide, then we might have something to discuss. I think Alaskans know how to manage Alaska better than non-Alaskans (and a lot better than the Fe’ral Government)

I like animals, though, they are cute and have a right to live here.

So this is interesting in two respect to me. One – holy crap is that a lot of contributions. Two – what a neat use of a time chart. Apparently this is a graphing function that is available in Google Apps – I wonder if it is in Excel?

I am discovering all sorts of RSS feeds these days that cover politics using Google Reader’s recommendations. It uses what you are subscribed to and suggests other sources that others with similar interests are reading.

I discovered the Minnesota Independent a few weeks ago and get irritated every time I read it. I kind of like getting pissed off so that is probably why I still read it. What irritates me is that my original interest in it was that it was “Independent,” and upon further review, it is really a very liberal publication that sort of specializes in publishing slim-shady(Slarty for Slanderous) articles about McCain and other Pachyderms. Wikipedia has an article about the blog and I guess there is some controversy about its funding being more politically oriented. (I guess George Soros’ Open Society has given some dough).

So no real news here, people can say and publish what they want, but I wanted to express my irritation in a more constructive way than simply swearing at my computer screen. If it was really independent, I would think that it would cover all major politicians as one large group of characters that say whatever they think will preserve their power and when they get their power they wield it in a way to preserve it.

On a side note, I just found Ron Paul’s web site’s RSS feed – there should be some good stuff about the government takeover of everything in that beauty.
