Jesus Otay

Over the weekend, the church sign from “Try Jesus” was vandalized by a bunch of wordsmiths. Monday morning on my commute, the new sign blew my socks off. Today, I brought the digital along to photo document it, only to find the sign had been changed again to just “Try Jesus.”

So no picture, but here was the phraseology: “Try Jesus, If You Don’t Like Him, Its Otay

Teaches me to keep my camera with me at all times.

Dirty Laundry Efficiency Tip

Yesterday, I solved a minor problem in my life. A little background first, I have a system to figure out what to wear each day. I always choose shirts from the left hand side of the closet and always hang them up on the right hand side. Shirts are evenly worn and I can make sure I maintain a variety. If a shirt consistently is skipped over on the left side, I replace it. There are some other subtle nuances, but I cannot share all of my secrets.

The problem I solved is that often times I don’t notice if a shirt has a small stain or dirt mark on it. Usually, when I crash at night, I just hang it up and forget about it. At work yesterday, I noticed that I had a small spill on my shirt. By the end of the day, I remembered this, but also realized that I had forgotten it. My solution is to put a safety pin near the top button. That way, I know when I undress that I should through this shirt in the dirty laundry. If that does not work, I probably will notice when I try to wear the shirt again. Either way, the safety pin is small enough that most people would not notice; those that would notice probably would notice the dirty shirt. (Zaphod and I actually came up with an enhanced version, which I will be selling online at the Slarty Store, when I have time to set it up)

Try Jesus

I drive by a church every day that has a fantastic bible thumper sign that changes every 6 weeks or so. It turns out that several people notice the sign at work and consider it a highlight of their morning commute. Now, through the miracles of modern science, all of Slarty’s reader will be able to experience these gems, as I will be photo-blogging them. (There is another one that I see in the summer on my commute to Canada that I will try to capture as well)

State of the Union Speech 1/31/2006

Is it just me or are State of the Union speeches these days a waste of time? I always tune into them thinking that I am going to be inspired or enriched and I leave thinking that I got a laundry list of agenda items peppered with partisan jabs. Why can’t the President use this opportunity to inspire the nation or educate the masses? The President should take some lessons from Steve Jobs and his MacWorld keynotes.

Bush started out by recognizing the passing of Coretta Scott King. He had a few nice words, but then moved on. If he actually felt that it was such a big deal, it would have been cool if he came out on stage and said, “I had a nice 1 hour speech talking about issues and agenda items, but I have decided to spend the next hour talking about tolerance and civility.” Maybe even invite a few others to share some words. That would have been memorable.

I did watch it in High Def TV, so there was some excitement (not as much as the Wolves /Pistons game tonight). And he did use a phrase that I liked. “Hindsight alone is not wisdom, and second-guessing is not a strategy.” Full Text of Speech.
