Canadian Parliament

Last night, while enjoying a Summit Northern Porter, I watched the Canadian Parliament topple the Paul Martin government on CSPAN. As you probably know, the measure passed and Canada will be having elections in January.
What does it mean that Canada and Germany, both vocal opponents to the war in Iraq, have decided to change leadership while Britain and the US have chosen to maintain their leadership? Not to mention that France has suffered crazy riots. I have friends who say that the US voters were stupid because they voted Gee Dub in again. The assumption is that in other areas of the world, voters are smarter. If they are smarter, why would they vote out the leadership that was so strongly and valiantly opposed to the war? Maybe this just goes to prove that all people are equally stupid.
