Efficient Signage

I was cruising around St. Lucia in a taxi and came across a sign that I thought needed to be documented. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the taxi driver to turn around to take a picture. It had three lines of text:

Drinking and driving kills,
And so does AIDS,
So SLOW DOWN.

TV and Sports

How much time is wasted by folks watching sports on TV? Enjoyable to watch, yes, but last week I found myself glued to the TV watching my home team perform miserably; completely consumed, I was not able to do anything else. Disturbing. I was being brainwashed/programmed. I have a sneaky suspicion that the government might be involved in an effort to program its citizens. Is there any wonder why we have not had a revolution in so many years?

That being said, I also think that TV has ruined professional sports teams. Without TV and the big buck TV contracts, athletes would not be able to have the ridiculous salaries that they have and the economics of the games would be much simpler. Attendance to live sporting events would definitely increase, making that atmosphere so much better. Also, just think of the productivity gains. I probably spend 4-6 hours a week watching sports on TV. That is over 300 hours a year (or 12+ days). 300 hours of programming by advertisers.

The world would be better off if we banned sports on TV. I would propose a new bill to congress, but the big tourney is about to start…

New Invention – An ink pen with cut and paste

I think this could be the idea that will make Slarty rich (financially, at least). I was working on a to-do list for myself and I was transferring information from the back side of the card to the front. I have a short memory, so for phone numbers and such I often have to look several times to get the information transferred. Today when I did it, I actually circled the value on the back side of the card, as if to copy it (ctrl-C), and then I flipped the card over to paste it in place. Of course, it did not work and I felt stupid. Just think if it did work… I have to find a patent attorney.

No Pillows?!?

Ok, this is nuts. I was on a plane this evening and as I walk on the plane, a woman in the first class section asked for a pillow. It turns out that Northwest Airlines no longer provides pillows. American Airlines stopped doing it to save money and the other airlines followed suit.

Does this make any sense? I did not even think they cleaned those pillows, I figured they were disposable.
